SCORING APPROACH:
Each district's non-discrimination policies were reviewed based on web-published documents to identify inclusion of sexual orientation and gender identity/expression. Additionally, active Gay-Straight Alliances (GSA) were overlayed into the data set as an indicator for school climate. Points were awarded as follows with a maximum of 3:
  • +1 if a GSA is active at the high school
  • +1 if the district's non-discrimination policy includes sexual orientation
  • +1 if the district's non-discrimination policy includes gender identity / express
