Passages -- Looking Back

Passages Show 4/21 -- we hosted a great group of young performers, part from the KC Pride Youth Royalty Court as well as some of our own Passages' youth. Our own Passages' DJ, a youth who now works at Hamburger Mary's after building his skills at Passages, was on-hand to run the show!

It's Okay to Say Gay 5/2 -- Passages' hosted Claire Cook from PROMO to educate youth on the Missouri legislative process. Additionally, she spoke about HB 2051, the "Don't Say Gay Bill". Youth had an opportunity to record their personal experiences to help educate others on the importance of having safe, inclusive classrooms.

Open Wednesdays and Saturdays -- Passages is open each Wednesday from 5:30 to 9pm and each Saturday from 6:30 to 11pm. Dinner is served each evening and is free. Wednesday's are more structured with a group meal and programming, for example from the Kansas City Anti-Violence Project on dating safety or from the KC Free Health Clinic. Saturday's are more social with an open dance floor, our open lounge space and computer lab, and other resources.

What is Passages?

Passages is the Kansas City metro's only youth center for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersexed, and Ally youth (LGBTQIA). Operating now for over 20 years, Passages offers a safe, hate-free, drug-free environment for youth aged 14-20 on Wednesday and Saturday nights. Our volunteers are LGBT community members with diverse personal and professional backgrounds willing to share our experiences. Moreover, Passages has a wealth of unique resources, such as: our computer lab with filtered 'net access, an LGBT-focused library of books and current periodicals, health and clinic materials / referrals, access to partnering organizations to assist with at-risk situations (homelessness, hunger, abuse, etc.). We are operated exclusively by volunteers and supported by community donations.
