Passages -- Looking Back

Passages October -- While we are all starting to look ahead to the 2012 holiday season, let's take a look back at the past month for Passages. Our mission to provide a safe, hate free space for LGBT youth of metro Kansas City is enabled by key supporting groups: partnering organizations that provide educational content relevant to LGBT youth, a strong set of dedicated volunteer facilitators and board who are passionate about mentoring the next generation of LGBT leaders, and a great group of community supporters like you who are willing to talk about our mission with others and lend financial support. In October, Passages continued to deliver this mission on Wednesday evenings with the support of each of these groups. Passages also had the opportunity to share our 21+ year story with the first class of GLSEN Safe Space training participants on Saturday.

What is Passages?

Passages is the Kansas City metro's only youth center for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersexed, and Ally youth (LGBTQIA). Operating now for over 20 years, Passages offers a safe, hate-free, drug-free environment for youth aged 14-20 on Wednesday and Saturday nights. Our volunteers are LGBT community members with diverse personal and professional backgrounds willing to share our experiences. Moreover, Passages has a wealth of unique resources, such as: our computer lab with filtered 'net access, an LGBT-focused library of books and current periodicals, health and clinic materials / referrals, access to partnering organizations to assist with at-risk situations (homelessness, hunger, abuse, etc.). We are operated exclusively by volunteers and supported by community donations.
