Advocating for the freedom to express yourself, every version of yourself. To celebrate your individuality without sacrificing acceptance or inclusion. The ability to say “this is me” – regardless of my gender, orientation, race or class. The world may change. Definitions may change. But together, we are Passages.

our history.

The Beginning.

KC Passages was founded in 1990 under as the Greater Kansas City Gay and Lesbian Youth Services. By 2002, KC Passages had expanded to hosting two meetings a week and was looking to join forces with the Kansas City Gay and Lesbian Community Center. And the community continued to grow over the next few years.

Our Own Location & mission.

In the fall of 2006, KC Passages experienced a large increase in youth attendance and strategic planning for further expansion began.   KC Passages meets at the Kansas City Anti-Violence Project's Q-mmunity Space and also chose Brush Creek Community Center as one of the locations for pop-up meetings.

KC Passages initially set out to be an association of mental health professionals and interested volunteers that would provide support and educational services for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning (LGBTQ) youth and straight allies confronting questions of sexual identity and homophobia. As it has grown, KC Passages has stayed true to this mission while expanding it to encompass gender identity, gender expression and other key topics for today’s LGBTQ+ youth.

Continuing to empower lgbtq+ Youth.
